OLIVE KALAMATA

140mm pot

Kalamata Olives are one of the most familiar and popular olives and are highly valued for their fruit and oil.

Kalamata trees have an upright spreading habit, with beautiful evergreen  , grey/green foliage and produces masses of creamy white flowers in spring, followed by medium-large, oval shaped fruit that ripens from green to dark-purple/black during summer and autumn. Kalamata is a very popular gourmet variety and are a great addition to salads, grazing plates and Mediterranean style dishes.

Kalamata olive trees are native to the Mediterranean and are hardy and tolerant of dry conditions and full sun.  They grow successfully in Tasmania as they also tolerate cold weather. They prefer a full sun to partly shaded position in the garden and will tolerate light frost when mature. Better suited to colder regions than Manzanillo.

Perfect for use as a shade tree, fruit tree or foliage plant and will tolerate most conditions including coastal plantings and poor soil situations. They look sensational as a feature tree in the garden and are equally fabulous in large pots or wine barrels. You can even grow them indoors as they're tolerant of dry air and dry soil, making it a very adaptable house plant.

Mulch and water well during the first 12 weeks until the plant is established.

Prune after flowering to promote new growth.

Olive trees are one of the oldest cultivated trees in history. Considered a symbol of peace and wisdom.
